Whether they be college kids, military grunts, backyard rednecks or wandering hippies, the consensus among them all made for a new and mostly unified music scene. With the British Invasion making room for more Americanized formats, country roots-rock and cosmic cowboy music emerged as the particular styles dominating the playlists of that timeframe for the more in-the-know members of the nation’s youth. As the group’s leader and pianist, George would lead them onto a different path. Such was the case here at least in the hearts and minds of the American Top 40 crowd.īut as the AM pop radio world shifted into the heavier and more serious FM/ Rock Era of the early ’70s, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen played a different role in that emerging and glorious soundscape. It was a big hit!Īs is often the case, however, a chart-busting song with the type of quirkiness heard on this single will hang like an albatross on the offending performers’ neck and very often stamp them as both a novelty act and a one-hit-wonder. Cody was confident that no one could survive that, as Obi-Wan quietly climbed out of the pool. But it was at that institution of higher learning where George picked up an intriguing nickname one that labeled his presence in another form of artistic expression and from which he gained wide national acclaim and recognition:Ĭommander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen sprang from the Ann Arbor college bar & frat house scene in the late ’60s as a good time, rollicking funhouse of a throwback rock & roll band that quickly gained coast to coast radio play via a humorous yet long forgotten cover song called Hot Rod Lincoln the tale of that era’s young male fascination with big motors and fast speed. He called up to Obi-Wan on the rockface to tell him it had been an honor serving under him, then he blasted the rockface, causing Obi-Wan and the varactyly to fall a great distance into a pool of water. When Palpatine reluctantly admitted that was what he wanted the clones to do, Cody enthusiastically agreed to do it.

Cody instantly believed him, and eagerly offered to kill the Jedi. Palpatine hemmed and hawed a bit before telling Cody that the Jedi had become a threat. At that moment, Chancellor Palpatine contacted Cody. Obi-Wan rode his varactyl up a cliff wall to cut off the Federation forces' escape route. Commander Cody handed Obi-Wan back his laser sword (which Obi-Wan had dropped) while Obi-Wan was riding his varactyl. On Utapau, the Clone Troopers there were mopping up the Federation forces. Anakin tried to hint to Windu that Palpatine could be a Sith lord, but Windu was too dim to get it. Cody reported on what Obi-Wan had found out, including that Nute Gunray claimed he had sleeper agents in the Republic. Yoda reported that the Wookies won the battle. Obi-Wan contacted Cody on the transport and told him he was going to send his shuttle back to his transport on autopilot to make everyone think he was leaving, while he stayed on Utapau to spy on the Federation.Īt the Jedi Council chamber, Anakin and Mace Windu contacted Yoda on Kashyyyk and Commander Cody on Utapau. Medon suggested that Obi-Wan had other more important things to attend to in the Galaxy, and left. He was greeted by Tion Medon, who privately told him that the Trade Federation was already there on Utapau, besieging the planet, but that Medon and his people were determined to fight them off by themselves and didn't want any help from outsiders. Obi-Wan arrived at Utapau and flew down there in a personal shuttle. Obi-Wan headed for Utapau to go after Valorum/General Grievous. He recorded his thoughts, voicing suspicions about Anakin, Padme, R2, and Yoda, and realized that he was the only one who could do what must be done.
